Asghar Jahangir, the spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s Judiciary, announced the arrest of 3,292 individuals on charges of what he termed “collaboration with the enemy.”
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, June 22, Jahangir stated that among those detained, 684 individuals are accused of carrying out “operational actions” for Israel, while 1,258 others were arrested for what was described as “political, propaganda, and media activities.”
According to the judiciary spokesperson, indictments have been issued for 1,061 individuals so far. He also announced that “hundreds of cases” involving assets belonging to individuals he referred to as “traitors” have been identified, and that the process of tracing and tracking these properties is still ongoing.
Following the outbreak of the recent war with Israel, the Islamic Republic initiated a wave of arrests and judicial crackdowns, citing the law on “intensifying punishments for espionage.” During this period, hundreds of people have been detained on charges of “collaboration with the enemy,” “espionage,” or “complicity with Israel.” Reports have also emerged regarding the seizure and confiscation of assets belonging to some of the accused.
