He earned $4.4 million on his expiring deal signed in Chicago, so while his new deal is a slight pay decrease, the five-year term at his age is a win for the player. Murphy was ranked No. 30 on The Athletic’s UFA Board.Defenceman Darnell Nurse has asked for a trade out of Edmonton, so the Oilers could ill afford to lose Murphy.The Oilers also re-signed centre Jason Dickinson on Sunday to a five-year deal carrying a $4 million average annual value. He was also a pending UFA and acquired from Chicago before the deadline.
