Channel 5's new drama Little Disasters has been a hit with viewers, and fans may recognise one star in the series.16:11, 22 Jun 2026Updated 16:19, 22 Jun 2026This month, a gripping new thriller arrived on Channel 5 boasting an impressive cast that includes EastEnders star Jo Joyner, Bridgerton's Shelley Conn and The Office's Patrick Baladi.‌Little Disasters, adapted from Sarah Vaughan's bestselling novel, centres on the intertwined lives of four close friends.‌Their decade-long bond is thrown into turmoil, however, when one of them rushes her baby to hospital with an unexplained head injury.‌When her friend and A&E doctor, Liz (Jo), is left with no option but to alert social services, the situation takes a dramatic turn.Sharp-eyed viewers may well recognise the social worker brought in to handle the case, having spotted her in several popular programmes previously.‌Actress Chizzy Akudolu, who portrays Lucy Harding in the series, is best known for her long-standing role in Holby City as consultant surgeon Mo Effanga.She took on the role in the BBC medical drama in 2012, remaining a firm fixture on the show for five years before her departure in 2017, reports the Express.‌She did make a brief return, however, with Chizzy reprising her much-loved role as the surgeon once more in 2022 for the long-running drama's final episode.BBC viewers may also recognise Chizzy from her appearance in Beyond Paradise, where she portrayed Reverend Kate Beccles in the 2024 Christmas special, before later appearing as a guest cast member in the third series.Although this wasn't her debut appearance in the Paradise universe, as she previously featured in the original series Death in Paradise back in 2019 as Butterfly Brown.‌While she's tackled numerous roles throughout her career, her most recent portrayal as the social worker in the Channel 5 drama has captivated audiences as she attempts to uncover the truth behind what happened to the injured baby.Since Little Disasters first aired in June, it's received widespread acclaim from viewers.
