Habib Abbasi, the Director-General of Public Relations for the President’s Office, announced that Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to Pakistan on Tuesday, June 23. He noted that the visit is likely to be a one-day trip.
The President’s Office stated that “expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s mediating role between Iran and the United States” is one of the primary objectives of the visit. Additionally, “following up on approvals from previous visits” and “reviewing ways to expand economic cooperation between the two countries” are on the agenda for Pezeshkian’s talks with Pakistani officials.
The announcement of this trip comes as Iran-U.S. negotiations, mediated by Pakistan, have commenced in Switzerland. In recent months, Pakistan has played the leading mediating role between Tehran and Washington, and the initial agreement between the two sides is known as the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.”
In the first round of Iran-U.S. negotiations in Switzerland, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, were also in attendance.
