The Kerala government will take a final decision on the implementation of the Centre’s Labour Codes only after conducting extensive consultations with trade unions, legal experts, employers and other stakeholders, Minister for Labour, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Bindhu Krishna informed the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Monday (June 22, 2026).Responding to a calling attention motion moved by N.K. Akbar, the Minister said the State government had not yet finalised its position on framing rules under the Labour Codes and would first undertake a detailed examination of the recommendations submitted by the expert committee headed by the former Supreme Court judge V. Gopala Gowda.Mr. Akbar reiterated concerns that the Labour Codes could adversely affect workers’ rights and urged the government to continue the policy adopted by the previous Left Democratic Front government, which had expressed reservations about implementing the “worker-unfriendly” provisions.
