Muscat: The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, through the Athar Endowment Health Foundation, have launched the second phase of the initiative to provide medical treatment for eligible Zakat beneficiaries through private healthcare institutions across the Sultanate of Oman. Registration for treatment requests will open in early July and continue until mid-August for Zakat beneficiaries registered with the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Medical treatment procedures are scheduled to commence at the beginning of September this year. The initiative comes as part of the implementation of the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to allocate funds for the treatment of individuals eligible to receive Zakat assistance. The Royal directives are aimed at supporting eligible beneficiaries while reinforcing the spirit of social solidarity and community participation that has long been a defining characteristic of Omani society. The initiative also reflects the importance of promoting the values of compassion and giving, enhancing quality of life, reducing health disparities, and improving access to healthcare services for various segments of society. The programme covers surgical procedures and diagnostic imaging services at private hospitals across all governorates of Oman. It seeks to accelerate access to treatment for eligible patients while helping to reduce waiting lists at referral hospitals. The second phase builds on the success of the initiative’s first edition and underscores the Sultanate’s commitment to strengthening social protection mechanisms, expanding healthcare access, and fostering partnerships between public, charitable, and private sector institutions to serve those most in need.
