On the eve of the commencement of talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland, the U.S. President threatened the Islamic Republic. Simultaneously, however, the U.S. representative to these negotiations and the country’s Vice President promised the Islamic Republic that the United States is prepared to fundamentally transform its relations with Iran.
Donald Trump, the U.S. President, warned against any action by the Islamic Republic to close the Strait of Hormuz in a sharp-toned interview with Fox News, claiming that Iran would face severe consequences in the event of such a move.
Trump stated that Islamic Republic officials have been warned that closing the Strait of Hormuz could have serious repercussions for the country, adding: “In the event of closing the strait, they would no longer have a country and would not even be able to return to their own nation.”
Claiming that the U.S. could play a special role in the security of this waterway, he said, “We can become the guardian angel of the Strait of Hormuz,” and asserted that the United States might take control of a portion of the oil passing through this route. The U.S. President further raised the possibility of military action, stating: “If necessary, we might take control of the strait, and we will target them severely.”
