Lily Allen is currently on her West End Girl tour, and for some reason, many people haven't got the memo that it's a one woman show where she pours her heart out09:50, 22 Jun 2026Lily Allen is currently on her West End Girl tour across the UK, and fans are obsessing over her outfit, what she'll perform and whether there will be any candid moments with the audience.‌She shot to fame in 2006 with her hit song 'Smile,' which became the soundtrack to many people's summers that year. Lily Allen was a breath of fresh air; a straight-talking, dress and trainer-wearing woman, who didn't seem to care much about the opinions of others. Fast forward to 2018, and Lily had taken a seven-year musical hiatus before she shocked fans with the release of West End Girl, and we were hooked from the off.‌It's been described as theatrical music, with the album taking us all on Allen's journey of heartbreak, which she faced when things went awry with David Harbour, who is known for his role in Stranger Things.‌When Lily announced her tour, she made it really obvious that she would be touring her West End Girl album. From the tour poster of her wearing her iconic puffer jacket to the words written on the poster, she couldn't have made her intent any clearer. So why are people complaining so much online she didn't sing any of her old tunes, and instead, use an orchestra to play these bangers and have a sing-along with the audience?‌Someone on X wrote: "I’m not beefing Lily Allen, that’s just absurd, and I actually like her, but you cannot say the tour isn’t a bit disappointing. Setlist aside, 0 interaction with the crowd? Come on."Megan Wigley on TikTok said the tour "gave nothing," but people claimed they thought she "missed the point" of it.In my opinion, all Lily Allen has done is redefine what it means to play an arena. She decided her album was so theatre-coded that she wants to perform it all for the audience, costume changes and all, much like an actor would in... you guessed it... the West End.‌In the comments of Megan's video, a fan penned: "You do realise that it’s a concept album, and was meant to be presented the way it was. Like a play you’d see on the West End."Someone described it as "something a little different from your usual concert formula," and Lily has always been all about subtly pushing boundaries, and that's exactly what she'll continue to do for the rest of her career. And I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the crowd, which Megan brutally described as "dead". It really wasn't, it was so much fun! If you loved the album, then it's almost a guarantee you'll love seeing Lily perform it in real life. It's everything you've wanted, and more.‌I can completely see why she's reluctant to perform her old hits at this time in her life, too, when everything has changed for her. Or maybe she's just teasing us for a comeback tour in the future. Who knows what goes on in that wonderful mind of hers?Another wrote: "The show is billed 'Lily Allen performs West End Girl'. It’s public knowledge now that she’s not doing her hits. Plus, if people actually go to the tour, they’ll kind of see why. It flows very much like a play, there’s intros, etc., that make it longer." Exactly! And for the naysayers accusing her of not singing live, or 'singing very quietly over a backing track' which I've also seen accusations of online - she muddled one of her lyrics up... so.Article continues belowAs for the people online saying the performance was "10/10 no notes," I couldn't agree more. It was something different; she's poured her heart out on stage, and soundtracked how so many of us have felt at one point or another. A fantastic evening of entertainment!
