Mathura's Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva-Sansthan has requested an official probe into financial misconduct allegations by seer Dinesh "Phalahari" Maharaj.AGRA: Mathura's Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva-Sansthan has written to chief minister Yogi Adityanath seeking an official probe into allegations of financial misconduct levelled against it by seer Dinesh "Phalahari" Maharaj, days after UP govt ordered an SIT inquiry into alleged irregularities in offerings and donations at Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Mathura controversy began after Phalahari Maharaj accused Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple management of lack of transparency in donations, gold and silver ornaments, and revenue linked to rituals such as "Chhappan Bhog", the traditional offering of 56 delicacies to Lord Krishna. He demanded a CBI probe into the temple's revenue system and drew parallels with the donation row in Ayodhya.Phalahari Maharaj, a petitioner associated with Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi movement, alleged that donations and valuables offered by devotees required independent scrutiny and accused Kapil Sharma, secretary of Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva-Sansthan, of amassing assets worth Rs 1,000 crore. Sharma dismissed the allegations as malicious and unsupported, and said the trust was ready for an official examination. In a letter sent to the CM on June 20, Sharma rejected the allegations and asked state govt to get the matter investigated by a competent authority. "The allegations are false, baseless and aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the religious institution," Sharma said, adding that the claims had hurt the sentiments of devotees and created confusion among them.Sharma said he had been associated with the temple for nearly three decades without taking salary or honorarium, and that he bore official travel expenses from his own pocket. "A competent authority should investigate the temple's accounts and my personal assets. The findings should be made public so that the truth comes before devotees," he said in the letter, seeking a detailed departmental inquiry. The trust has also filed a complaint against Phalahari Maharaj at Govind Nagar police station in Mathura, alleging fraud, extortion and attempts to defame the institution. The complaint, lodged a day after the seer wrote to the CM seeking a CBI inquiry, accused him of running a similarly named trust and misleading devotees. In Ayodhya, UP govt recently constituted a three-member SIT after Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust sought an inquiry into allegations of irregularities in temple offerings. The panel has been asked to submit a preliminary report within seven days and final report within 15 days. The Ayodhya allegations triggered a political storm, with opposition parties demanding greater transparency and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav calling the probe an "insult to Sanatan Dharma". Ram Temple trust has denied wrongdoing and said the inquiry was sought to counter misinformation.
