Severe Tropical Storm “Francisco” (international name: Mekkhala) intensified into a typhoon on Sunday afternoon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to Pagasa, Francisco turned into a typhoon around 2 p.m. while being monitored within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

It was last located 1,090 kilometers east of Central Luzon, carrying wind speeds at 120 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 150 kph.FEATURED STORIES
