Some basic science background could have saved Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) from spinning out over an uncontroversial experiment on genetically modified mice online earlier this week.On Thursday, the failed gubernatorial candidate took to X with a furious post claiming government funding was backing “radical transgender experiments” on animals.Referring to said research as “ideological cruelty paid for by the American taxpayers,” she went on to promote the “TRANS MICE Act,” a dormant bill she introduced to the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology last July.Animals should not be used for radical transgender experiments. This is not science. No taxpayer dollars spent mutilating animals in the name of transgender ideology,” Mace wrote. “This legislation brings accountability, ends taxpayer-funded cruelty, and ensures science serves the public, not ideology.”Almost immediately, she was slapped with a community note which explained how the “trans mice” had nothing to do with so-called “transgender ideology.”“Transgenic mice are defined as mice that have incorporated foreign DNA into their genome, allowing for the study of gene function and disease mechanisms, particularly in cancer research,” the note read, linking to a biomedical study posted by the National Institutes of Health and a fact-checking article from the advocacy group, Americans for Medical Progress.Rep. Conveniently, she forgot to include any examples of her grievance du jour in her follow-up post.Along with the debunking note, Mace got thoroughly mocked in the replies, many of which noted that the same officials ranting about science funding were among those pushing to eliminate the Department of Education.Check out a few choice jabs at the congresswoman here:Republicans once again proving they have mental problems and are more concerned about what people have between their legs than the poor and starving of their constituants.— Anonymous (@YourAnonNews) June 18, 2026Translation: Not transgender.Transmission: Not transgender.Transportation: Not transgender.Transatlantic: Not transgender.Transgenic: Also not transgender.English is hard.— Billifer 🇨🇦 (@billifer1973) June 19, 2026
