Spain boss Luis de la Fuente said his side had silenced their doubters after Lamine Yamal and Mikel Oyarzabal inspired a 4-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
One of the pre-tournament favourites, La Roja’s World Cup got off to a slow start as they were held 0-0 by tournament debutants Cape Verde.
Barcelona superstar Yamal only appeared as a second-half substitute in that match as he is eased back to full fitness after a hamstring injury.
In his first start for two months, the 18-year-old only played the first half, but that was still enough to tear apart the Saudis and send a message that the European champions remain in contention for a second World Cup.
