Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Taranjit Singh Sandhu performed asanas as Delhi marked the International Day of Yoga on Sunday, drawing thousands, including students, youth, women and senior citizens.Ms. Gupta participated in a special yoga programme along with Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Delhi government’s senior officers at Neeli Jheel in Asola-Bhati Wildlife Sanctuary. She said yoga is a “priceless heritage” of Indian culture and a matter of pride for the entire nation.“People in almost every country of the world are making yoga a part of their lives. Yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a complete way of life that brings balance between the body, mind and soul while shaping one’s consciousness and lifestyle,” the CM said.‘Civilisational ethos’Mr. Sandhu began the day at the Yamuna Sports Complex. Under the theme ‘One Delhi, One Yoga’, programmes were held across all 70 Assembly constituencies. In a post on X, Mr. Sandhu said yoga is rooted in India’s “civilisational ethos” and has evolved into a global movement. “It was heartening to see women taking a leading role, along with growing participation from senior citizens,” he said, adding that yoga enables active and dignified lives.
