Melomed Gatesville
A proposal to convert a portion of the Rylands Sports Complex in Gatesville into a parking area for Melomed Hospital has sparked heated debate among community members and sports administrators.
The hospital group said part of the plans include a new double storey clubhouse with amenities, while sporting clubs such as the Rylands Cricket Club representatives argue that green space and recreational space will be lost.
The sports complex, also known as A.W. Mukudem Oval, is a renowned, historic cricket facility located in Hazel Road.
The dispute centres on an application by Melomed Hospital for rights associated with a servitude over a portion of City-owned land adjacent to the hospital.
