Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have foiled an alleged attempt by a 21-year-old woman to sell her newborn baby, leading to the reunion of the mother and child with their family.

The police said officers attached to the Oyi Divisional Headquarters acted on credible intelligence on June 19, 2026, and moved swiftly to secure the young mother and her infant daughter after receiving information from a concerned resident.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the intervention followed a tip-off that led officers to a location in the Igbariam area of the state, where the woman and her newborn child were found.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had concealed both her pregnancy and delivery from her parents,” Ikenga stated.
