Germany secured their place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming from behind to defeat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in their second Group E match on Saturday.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side, who opened their campaign with an emphatic victory over Curacao, were made to work harder by the Elephants after falling behind in the first half.
Despite Germany dominating possession and creating the better chances, it was Côte d’Ivoire that struck first against the run of play, with Franck Kessie giving the African side the lead before the break.
Germany responded strongly after halftime, and substitute Deniz Undav proved decisive. The striker came off the bench to score twice, completing the turnaround and handing the four-time world champions a second consecutive victory.
