The gamble was bold, but the outcome is brutally familiar.

Tunisia have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing an early end to a chaotic campaign that saw a shock mid-tournament coaching change fail to spark any turnaround. After just one match, Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed following a heavy 5–1 defeat to Sweden in their Group F opener.

The decision came swiftly, with the federation turning to experienced French coach Hervé Renard in the hope of steadying a rapidly unravelling side.

The move was intended to reset the team’s tournament before it slipped away entirely. Instead, it only confirmed the scale of the problems.
