In football, people often misunderstand what a tight end, like me, does. For 16 NFL seasons as a tight end, I often had to clarify what my position did. People see tight ends make the contested grabs in the red zone or receive the check-down after the pocket collapses. Or, they see the crushing block that springs the running back for a first down to extend the drive.

Benjamin Watson is a former NFL tight end, as well as an author, speaker, host of The Just Life with Benjamin Watson, a college football studio analyst with the SEC Network, and editor-in-chief of Sports Spectrum, a media platform where faith and sports connect. He and his wife, Kirsten, engage in pro-athlete ministry and initiatives that focus on strengthening families and live in Georgia with their seven children.
