NFP President Ivan Barnes might be in trouble with his own party following a letter informing him that he has been suspended and will be subjected to disciplinary process.
Tit for tat is at play in the National Freedom Party (NFP) following a letter written on Saturday that its President, Ivan Barnes, has been suspended a day after he announced the lifting of KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson Mbali Shinga in compliance with a court order.
In the letter addressed to Barnes, National Chairperson Sibusiso Mkhabela said he acted on behalf of the NFP leadership structures, and in his own capacity, in suspending Barnes pending a disciplinary hearing.
As the letter circulated on social media, Shinga had returned to the party and government duties following Friday’s Pietermaritzburg High Court order, which temporarily lifted her expulsion from the party, and was busy with voter registration campaigns in the south coast as the Social Development MEC.
Mkhabela said he suspended Barnes because of his failure to respond to correspondence addressed to him on June 11.
