Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Marine Corps have begun large-scale "Resolute Dragon" exercises in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa, aimed at practicing the defense of remote southwestern islands.

According to Ukrinform, Nikkei stated this in an article.

The drills, which will continue until June 30, involve approximately 9,600 military personnel from both countries. Type 10 tanks will be deployed, and training will include the deployment of Type 88 and Type 12 launch systems for guided anti-ship missiles.

In addition, Japanese forces plan for the first time to use the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft in casualty evacuation exercises from an island to an air base in Okinawa.

The exercises will also practice transporting missile launchers to remote islands using military transport vessels and refueling missile systems. No live-fire missile launches have been announced.
