AMMAN: More than 200,000 Syrian refugees voluntarily returned home from Jordan between December 2024 and June this year, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said on Saturday.
In a report released on World Refugee Day, June 20, the UNHCR said that voluntary returns from Jordan to Syria increased significantly in the past two years.
Yousef Taha, UNHCR spokesperson in Jordan, told Al-Mamlaka TV that 23,150 Syrian refugees have returned home since the beginning of this year, including 2,500 refugees between June 1-13.
Returns are continuing at a steady pace, he added.
About 82,000 children were among those returning home.
