AFTER losing her daughter in a tragic accident involving an alleged drunk driver, a Chatsworth mother has launched a petition calling for a zero-alcohol limit for drivers.
On Monday, Dr Sharona Deonarain started a petition, “Put Life First: Zero Alcohol for Drivers” on Change.org.
This follows the death of her 21-year-old daughter, Khitana Mayess Deonarain, who was knocked and killed on the M1 Higgison Highway on August 18 last year, allegedly by a drunk driver.
Speaking to the POST this week, Deonarain, a PhD graduate in law specialising in criminal justice, said every year, thousands of South African families are devastated by preventable road fatalities caused by “intoxicated, reckless and speeding” drivers.
