The Lagos State Government has sought the partnership of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria to curb indiscriminate refuse dumping on road medians and roadsides across the state.

The initiative was unveiled on Saturday during a joint press conference addressed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, at the Ministry of Transportation’s Conference Room in Alausa.

Speaking at the briefing, Osiyemi said the partnership aims to empower transport union members to monitor and apprehend individuals caught disposing of refuse illegally on roadsides and medians.

He lamented that indiscriminate waste disposal posed serious environmental and public health risks, stressing that the government could no longer tolerate the practice.
