Health workers warned that Ebola may be spreading undetected in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.
A growing health crisis has gripped a displacement camp in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo after at least 30 residents reportedly died since early May.
Health workers warned that Ebola may be spreading undetected in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.
Officials in Kigonze camp in Bunia, Ituri Province, an area already at the centre of an Ebola outbreak, described the mortality rate as highly unusual, noting that the deaths far exceed the camp’s normal monthly figures, according to Reuters.
Camp authorities and aid workers said the situation has been worsened by widespread refusal among residents and relatives of the deceased to allow medical testing, making it difficult to confirm the exact cause of the fatalities.
