A delegation of farmers’ representatives will soon visit New Delhi to submit a representation to the Union Ministry of Water Resources against the construction of the proposed balancing reservoir across the Cauvery at Mekedatu by Karnataka.A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Tamil Nadu Vivasaya Sangakalin Koottuiyyakkam, comprising various farmers associations, here on Saturday. The meeting was convened by the organisation to discuss the possibility of filing a case in the Supreme Court, on behalf of delta farmers, against the Karnataka’s move to build the dam. Veteran farmers leaders Mahadhanapuram V. Rajaram and P. Ayyakannu were present.According to federation president Cauvery Dhanapalan, detailed discussions were held with a team of lawyers. Following this, the meeting decided to form a committee to gather data on the issue. It was felt that it would be better for farmers’ organisations to join hands with the State government in pursuing the legal option since it was an inter-State issue, he said.
