The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday clarified that a NEET (UG) candidate from Nashik was allotted an examination centre in Abu Dhabi because the change was made through the candidate’s own login credentials during the correction window, according to a Times of India report.Citing its web-activity records, the agency said the city change was carried out using the aspirant’s registered account and that the selected centre was previewed twice before submission."NTA's web-activity records indicate that the city change in this case was made through the candidate's own registered login during the open correction window, with a consistent single-user access pattern," the test-conducting agency said."Despite that NTA has acceded to the aspirant’s request and the change of centre was actioned," it added, noting that the examination centre was subsequently revised. The clarification came after reports emerged that 18-year-old NEET aspirant Abdullah Mohammad Talib from Nagpur had been allotted the Abu Dhabi Indian School as his examination centre despite not possessing a passport. The hall ticket generated on June 14 showed the overseas centre, prompting the family to contact the NTA helpline. According to the family, officials assured them the issue would be resolved, and the centre was changed within hours.Following the cancellation of the original May 3 NEET-UG examination over a question paper leak, the NTA had asked candidates whether they wished to retain their earlier centres or opt for new ones. The agency had also sought bank details for refunding the Rs 2,500 examination fee. No fresh fee was charged.Several parents said they had chosen to retain their original centres, particularly within Nagpur city limits. However, some later found that their revised admit cards carried centres located far from their preferred locations, including in other districts.Meanwhile, security and administrative arrangements have been significantly strengthened for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled on Sunday. The examination will be conducted from 2 pm to 5.15 pm in pen-and-paper mode across 551 cities in India and 14 overseas locations for more than 22.79 lakh candidates.Candidates eligible for compensatory time under the PwD/PwBD category will be allowed to continue writing until 6.20 pm.The re-test is being held after the cancellation of the May 3 examination following the discovery of a question paper leak. The NTA said district administrations, police authorities and escort teams have been mobilised to ensure secure transportation of confidential examination material.A total of 674 city coordinators and 6,669 observers have been deployed to oversee the conduct of the examination, while centre superintendents and invigilators have been appointed at all venues. The agency said the measures are aimed at ensuring a secure, fair and transparent examination process.(With TOI inputs)
