NewsUK NewsOver 40 firefighters are at the scene after a massive fire broke out at the Thurmaston Shopping Centre in Leicestershire - This is a breaking story08:59, 20 Jun 2026A shopping centre in Leicestershire has been badly damaged by a huge fire that broke out overnight.The blaze at the Thurmaston Shopping Centre in Barkby Thorpe Lane was reported at around 4am on Saturday, prompting a huge emergency response as firefighters rushed to battle the flames.Eight fire engines, two aerial appliances and over 40 firefighters are currently in attendance at the scene, in what it thought to be one of the largest emergency responses in recent times.Residents have been advised to keep windows shut and doors closed due to a massive smoke plume around the affected area.Images from the scene show the ferocious blaze tearing through a number of retail units at the shopping centre, while a portion of the roof appears to have too lapsed.
