A 49-year-old farmer, Akaniyene Ignatius, has confessed to killing and beheading two elderly men in Abanyama community, Creek Town, in the Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
He claimed that he carried out the gruesome acts to avenge the deaths of his parents and brother who were killed decades ago by the victims and others at large.
The suspect, who is currently in police custody following the killings of two prominent community elders, identified as 75-year-old Oko Okon and 73-year-old Okon Akpan stated this in his confessional statement, which PUNCH obtained.
According to sources at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the first victim, Oko Okon, was murdered on May 24, 2026. Investigators said Ignatius allegedly entered the elderly man's residence while he was asleep, strangled him and later severed his head.
