"Transportation of weapons and ammunition is a critical link in the chain of terrorist operations that enables them to carry out attacks that result in death, injuries and widespread destruction,” he said.
The Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced a woman, Raya Haruna, to 10 years imprisonment for transporting arms and ammunition to bandits, in a judgment that underscores determination to dismantle logistical networks sustaining insecurity.
Justice Simon Amobeda delivered the verdict on Friday, finding Haruna guilty on a three-count charge relating to the unlawful transportation of firearms and the provision of logistical support to criminal groups operating in parts of the region.
The conviction was secured under provisions of the Firearms Act and the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which criminalise the illegal possession, movement and supply of firearms, as well as the provision of material assistance to terrorist organizations and related criminal networks.
Security operatives arrested Haruna in 2024 during an operation targeted at disrupting the flow of weapons to bandits terrorizing communities in Kano State and neighboring areas. Since her arrest, she had remained in custody while standing trial before the Federal High Court.
