Mumbai: Reliance Industries (RIL) executive director Anant Ambani on Friday said it is targeting 40 billion units of green electricity generation annually, equivalent to about 3% of India's current annual power requirement. The power would be generated at RIL's renewable energy hub across more than half a million acres in Kutch, Gujarat, Ambani said at the 49th annual general meeting of India's biggest company by market value.Announcing a slew of measures for the new energy segment, Ambani said from 2027 onward, new energy will begin contributing meaningfully to Reliance's financial performance. Also read: Reliance seeks to build India's sovereign AI backbone; unveils Jio call agent and AI home platformReliance New Energy plans to commission the first phase of its 40 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery cell gigafactory this year as all the equipment required to produce cells have been delivered, said Anant Ambani. "All the equipment have already been delivered at the site, and we have now committed to scale this up to 120 gigawatt-hour of annual capacity," Ambani said. The company's new energy business is moving from construction to commissioning, with commercial revenues expected to start flowing this year, he said.RIL's solar PV cell and module manufacturing lines have been commissioned and are now operational. He said nearly 1 gigawatt (GW) of heterojunction technology (HJT) modules have been produced with around 2% higher energy yield, 15% better temperature performance and 25% lower degradation than conventional modules. Also read: Reliance Jio eyes India's own satellite broadband networkThe company has also achieved an approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM) listing for HJT technology, the first in India for this advanced cell type, he said, adding that RIL is building towards 20 GW per annum of fully integrated capacity from polysilicon to ingots, wafers, cells, modules and glass. He added that RIL is building the world's first fully sovereign clean energy ecosystem. "Sunlight is converted directly into electricity and green molecules. No imported fuel. No foreign technology. No exposure to the disruptions that have shaken the world this past year," he added. Ambani also spoke about RIL's long-term supply agreement with Samsung C&T for green ammonia exports which the company had signed in March.
