Two trains have collided near Bedford with police and fire services called to the scene.
Thameslink says all lines between Luton and Bedford have been blocked.
Images have emerged from the crash, which show two damaged East Midland Railway trains crushed together. There has been several reports on social media of trains crashing on the line.Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed on social media that it is at the scene of the incident on the railway just south of Bedford.“Please avoid the area,” a spokesperson says.In a statement British Transport Police said: “We’re responding to reports of a collision involving two trains in the Bedford area. We’ll share more information as soon as possible.”
A Luton Airport Express train, which runs between central London and London Luton Airport, is one of the electric locomotives which are pictured.
Journey times between the destinations are as little as 32 minutes and the train has a top speed of 110 mph.
