Mahmoud Ghanbari-Rad, a 40-year-old married citizen, has been accused by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of “assembly and collusion against national security,” “gathering classified information,” and “providing this information to Israel.”
According to information obtained by IranWire, Ghanbari-Rad, who worked as a network security specialist at a company in Tehran, was arrested at his private residence in May of this year. The source emphasized that he has no prior history of political or civil activism.
In a phone call from prison, Ghanbari-Rad described the case against him as “fabricated” and stated that he is under pressure to accept the charges.
The network security specialist suffers from a neurological disorder. He spent the first month of his detention in Evin Prison before being transferred to Fashafuye Prison. Furthermore, he has been denied access to a lawyer since his arrest.
In recent weeks, an increase in the issuance and execution of heavy sentences on charges of “spying” or “cooperating with Israel” has raised concerns regarding the situation of certain security prisoners, a context within which Mahmoud Ghanbari-Rad’s case has also drawn attention.
