US President Donald Trump on Friday launched a sharp attack on Democrats, asserting that Iran has been left militarily devastated by the conflict with the United States and accusing the opposition of falsely claiming Tehran is better off now than it was four months ago.In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that Iran no longer has an air force, a navy, anti-aircraft equipment, or radar. "The War has diminished Iran! It doesn't, any longer, have an Air Force, a Navy, Antiaircraft Equipment, Radar, or practically anything else," Trump said, directing his ire at what he called the "Dumocrats."Also read: US-Iran war: There are many questions about the peace deal. Here are (some) answers."And yet the Dumocrats say that Iran is better off now than it was four months ago. Can you imagine getting away with that??? How stupid can some people be???" he added. The post comes days after Trump signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran on June 17, marking a formal framework to end the war. Trump signed the MOU at the Palace of Versailles in France, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, with French President Emmanuel Macron present at the table. The US and Iran agreed to the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon," with a 60-day window to negotiate a final deal. The Democratic criticism Trump is responding to is centred specifically on the terms of this peace deal, not claims that Iran emerged militarily stronger. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said the war itself was "reckless" and "has been a disaster," and argued that Iran is "stronger" and Americans are "less safe" under Trump's leadership. Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, called the MOU "basically a surrender document," saying: "$100 billion of taxpayer money already put into this war, 14 Americans dead, and we get a deal that just reopens the strait that was already open before he started the war."Also read: Is the Iran war just an energy shock - or a turning point? The top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee also slammed the reported contents of the deal, calling them a "catastrophically bad outcome."Notably, the criticism of the deal has not been limited to Democrats. Republican Senator Bill Cassidy called it "the worst foreign policy blunder in decades," saying Iran's nuclear ambitions were not curbed and that Tehran had "learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works." Senator Ted Cruz also said Trump was getting "some really bad advice on this deal."
'The war has diminished Iran': Trump lashes out at Democrats over Tehran's military collapse
Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing critique of Democrats, asserting that Iran's military capabilities have been severely crippled by recent conflicts. He claimed Tehran has lost its air force, navy, and essential defense equipment. Trump vehemently disputed claims by Democrats that Iran is in a better position now than four months ago, questioning their judgment and intelligence.
