The State will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to crimes against women and children and intensify anti-drug measures, including an allocation of ₹10 crore for the anti-drug enforcement drive ‘Operation Toofan,’ as part of the revised Budget for 2026–27 presented by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Friday.Confidential toll-free helplines and a portal will be established for reporting crimes against children. Anti-drug operations will be strengthened through Anti-Narcotics Task Force, District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and Special Operations Group mechanisms.Drug-free campuses, dark-web monitoring, financial fraud investigations and awareness programmes will be implemented in collaboration with educational institutions, local self-government institutions and parents-teachers associations.The Budget also pledges to appoint more women as Station House Officers in police stations. Strong and stringent legal action will be initiated against officials who suppress cases involving crimes against women and children, as well as people who abuse women through social media platforms. Safe travel for women will be ensured and night-time police patrolling in major towns will be intensified. Moreover, a scheme titled ‘Makalkkoppam’ will be implemented to prevent crimes against women.New police stations will be established at Pattazhi and Edappal.In the Prisons department, steps will be implemented for infrastructure development, strengthening security and prisoner rehabilitation. To reduce overcrowding, the construction of prisons at places including Mannarkkad, Taliparamba and Pathanamthitta will be undertaken on a priority basis.In the Fire and Rescue Services department, priority will be given to modernisation and strengthening of emergency response systems, including the establishment of fire and rescue stations in various Legislative Assembly constituencies, operationalisation of new stations in Wayanad, and the deployment of emergency rescue teams along National Highway 66.
