The Revised Budget unveiled the UDF government’s plans to create a “Space Economy” in Kerala, a State that is home to key units of India’s space programme. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, while presenting the Revised Budget, said research institutions specialising in satellite technology will be established under this programme. Private enterprises engaged in satellite manufacturing and launch services would be encouraged to set up operations in the State, with the government making available the land required for their operations.The government also intends to improve the operations of Kerala Space Park (KSpace) in Thiruvananthapuram under this initiative. “The burgeoning ecosystem of private start-ups in the space sector is unlocking massive employment opportunities for young engineers, spanning the entire valuechain from upstream (satellite/rocket manufacturing) to downstream (data analytics) domains,” according to the Budget.Steps will be taken to attract more students to this cutting-edge sector, the Budget stated.
