The two-day ‘Velaan Sangamam 2026’, an agricultural festival, farmers’ seminar and exhibition, organised by the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University as part of the university’s 15th Foundation Day programme, commenced on Friday in Nagapattinam.District Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar inaugurated the event and lauded the university for its significant contribution to education, research, and entrepreneurship development since its establishment in 2012.More than 30 exhibition stalls have been set up by government departments, universities, veterinary universities, fisheries universities, agricultural machinery companies, private enterprises, agricultural input suppliers, banks, and farmer-entrepreneurs to demonstrate modern technologies and innovations to farmers.The agricultural festival features a series of seminars and awareness programmes on topics, including balanced fertilizer application, natural farming, climate-resilient agriculture, traditional livestock rearing, fisheries research innovations, and government welfare schemes for farmers. Live telecasts of the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi programme and farmer-scientist interaction sessions are being conducted.Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kumar stressed on the importance of soil testing and scientific farming practices to improve productivity. He urged farmers to make use of mobile soil and water testing laboratories available in the district and adopt location-specific nutrient management for better yields.N. Felix, Vice-Chancellor and P.
