Chief Judicial Magistrate Yashwant Rao Ingersoll convicted a man accused of indulging in online financial fraud and sentenced him to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5 lakh.The convicted person, Swapan Kumar Gosh, a resident of West Bengal, was arrested in September 2025 for cheating a Karaikal resident of ₹62 lakh. The resident was contacted over WhatsApp and promised high returns for investing in an online trading scheme. The victim invested ₹62 lakh but he could not withdraw the amount after a while. The victim had filed a police complaint, a release said.The Cyber crime police team traced the accused and arrested him. Within three months of the arrest, the team after consolidating the evidence filed a chargesheet against the accused.
