Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath ShindeMUMBAI: As if a Shiv Sena claim that at least 25 corporators from the Shiv Sena (UBT) were ready to cross over was not bad enough, Uddhav Thackeray's party lost a corporator, Deepak Sawant, to disqualification on Thursday. On a day that it became clear that six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs were going to switch their allegiance in the Lok Sabha, Shiv Sena politician Amey Ghole fuelled speculation about another round of defections, this time in the BMC, with a claim that 25 corporators were in direct contact with party leader Eknath Shinde."The UBT Shiv Sena faction is stifling its elected representatives. MPs and MLAs are not getting adequate opportunities to meet the party leadership. This is the main reason behind the discontent within the party," Ghole said while addressing the media. He claimed that several legislators and MPs, unhappy with the leadership's lack of accessibility, had expressed a preference for Shinde's style of functioning.Ghole said the Shiv Sena had launched a concerted drive to bring two-third of the Shiv Sena (UBT) corporators into its fold, with party MPs, MLAs and corporators assigned specific responsibilities to facilitate the exercise.Sawant lost his seat as his caste certificate was declared invalid by the district caste scrutiny committee. Mayor Ritu Tawde announced the disqualification in the house.AIMIM corporator Shameer Patel from the OBC-reserved Ward No. 137 in Govandi's M-East Ward also had his caste certificate invalidated by the Ahilyanagar district caste scrutiny committee. An announcement of the cancellation of his membership had been expected but it was stayed after he secured interim relief from a court.
