He is already the richest man in the world, but when SpaceX finally makes its hotly anticipated stock market debut, Elon Musk could become the planet's first trillionaire. Does it mean anything for South Africa, his homeland?
So, Elon Musk has really gone and done it – becoming the world’s first dollar trillionaire.
As we reported last week, the controversial billionaire was already the richest person with a net worth estimated at $840 billion. That figure was catapulted to $1.1 trillion when his company, SpaceX, made its stock market debut.
Congratulations are in order. But, I cannot exactly say it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. All I can say is that there’s money to be made in AI and technology – for entrepreneurs and investors alike.
Congratulations also to the many fellow South Africans, most of whom fall into the “netizens” category, who bought their stakes in this incredible company. Those who know better about these things say that while SpaceX may be overvalued now, in the near future the company will be worth much more than what investors bought into last week.
