ARLINGTON, Texas — Less than a year after repeatedly saying he’s a Minnesota Twin for life, Byron Buxton is getting out in front of trade speculation early again. The Twins center fielder, in the middle of a career year, is at the top of nearly every list when it comes to players who potentially could be dealt before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. On Thursday, Buxton told The Athletic he isn’t concerned with trade talk.“I don’t give a f—,” Buxton said with a smile. “End of the day, nobody’s in my shoes. Nobody can say anything about what I’m going to do. I know what I’m doing. The only way I’m getting out of here — they’re going to have to come talk to me and tell me something else. Simple as that. … I ain’t said nothing about leaving, nor will I. I’m a Twin.”With the Twins only 1 1/2 games out in the wild-card race, Buxton is focused on what’s taking place on the field and not in print.Buxton not only believes the Twins, who never trailed during a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers, are trending in the right direction, he’s secure in the fact that he alone is in charge of his destiny. After securing 10-and-5 rights earlier this season, Buxton has a no-trade clause for as long as he remains with the club. With teams approaching his representatives last summer to see if he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause, Buxton issued a similar statement at the All-Star Game to let interested parties know he wouldn’t.It’s easy to understand why the rumors persist.Last deadline, the Twins traded 10 players. The club also cut payroll again, opening this season with a $104.7 million payroll, down $38 million from Opening Day 2025.If they’re made available, Buxton, Joe Ryan and Ryan Jeffers would easily be among the top names on the market.
