Bafana Bafana fans were in high spirits at the V&A Waterfront last night.
Inspired by the spirit of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, Bafana Bafana seized the opportunity to etch their names into history, delivering a performance that honoured the weight of the occasion.
Supported by a dedicated contingent of fans and dignitaries in the stands, the team appeared prepared for the challenge. Their rendition of the national anthem was sung with visible passion, echoing through the retractable roof of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
When play commenced, the team’s performance matched the gravity of the week’s solemn Youth Day commemorations. In a display of resilience, Bafana held Czechia to a 1-1 draw in Atlanta.
This result maintains a significant trend in Bafana’s tournament history: the team have never suffered consecutive defeats in their four World Cup appearances, effectively rebounding from their opening loss to Mexico at the Azteca Stadium last week.
