NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that today’s meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group was defined by the “window of opportunity” for Ukraine, reflected in significant new commitments of military assistance from participating nations.
Rutte said this after the UDCG meeting had concluded, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“The window of opportunity, I think this is the key theme today. More support focused on Ukraine's priorities will help increase the pressure on Russia, and it will help for them to come hopefully to the table and finally now play ball in some meaningful negotiations. Therefore, end this terrible war,” Rutte said.
He also announced that several countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Latvia, Norway, Lithuania, Denmark, Luxembourg, Croatia, Sweden and Iceland, have collectively pledged hundreds of millions of dollars to the PURL program, which procures critical U.S.-made military equipment for Ukraine.
“So, there's 1/3 of the Alliance. Plus, from our partner Australia, important,” Rutte noted.
