Kolkata: A special cover on the 12th International Yoga Day and a song titled “Vandeyogam” were launched in Kolkata on Thursday amid preparations for the mega celebrations. These include a drone show at Babughat with 3,000 drones, a yoga carnival on June 20, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the main yoga event on Kolkata’s iconic Red Road.Kolkata’s iconic Red Road is gearing up to host the 12th International Yoga Day on June 21, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to lead the celebrations.Around 38,000 people from across the city have already registered to perform yoga alongside the Prime Minister. However, only 35,000 people will be allowed to participate in the Yoga Day celebrations, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Thursday.“With PM’s initiative, Yoga has become most accepted worldwide. More than 175 countries have accepted Yoga. It us unique. We are proud that 12th main programme will be organized in Kolkata,” Bengal CM said. The International Yoga Day event has also been made mandatory for all Bengal government employees.Paschimbanga DiwasTo celebrate Paschimbanga Diwas (West Bengal Foundation Day), the Hooghly Cultural Yoga Carnival will be organised along the riverfront. Iconic locations such as Princep Ghat, Millennium Park, and other ghats along the Hooghly River will be transformed into vibrant corridors of culture, creativity, and yoga heritage.The carnival will feature painting and photography competitions, live folk and classical music performances, traditional dance performances of West Bengal, interactive yoga installations, selfie points, and public engagement hubs.River-logo installationsA grand sand sculpture on the banks of the Hooghly will celebrate the legacy of yoga and Bengal's cultural heritage, while paying tribute to five great yoga masters through dedicated panels.Yoga-themed city illuminationKolkata will witness a unique transformation through special city-wide illumination and bridge lighting, creating a spectacular yoga-themed visual experience. For one evening, the City of Joy will symbolically emerge as the Yoga Capital of India.Mega drone showAround 3,000 drones will be used to narrate a spectacular aerial story of the river Ganga and the lotus. Five yoga gurus will be paid tribute from the sky. There will also be an aerial sequence portraying the Prime Minister's global journey. A Yoga Puja logo will be illuminated in the sky.
