The 2026 U.S. Open tees off this week as PGA Tour players head to Shinnecock Hills on New York’s Long Island for the third major championship of the season.
Shinnecock Hills returns as a US Open host for the first time since 2018, when Brooks Koepka captured his second consecutive US Open victory. The historic course has staged five previous U.S. Opens and is known for producing winning scores that sit much closer to par than typical PGA Tour events.
The spotlight will naturally fall on World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who has yet to finish outside the top 25 this season and has recorded four top-three finishes in his last six starts. Rory McIlroy arrives after adding another Masters victory earlier this season, while PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai showed he can handle major pressure with a composed breakthrough at Aronimink. Cameron Young has also emerged as a consistent threat this year with two victories, six top-10 finishes and a tie for third at the Masters, adding further depth to a field already stacked with major champions and in-form contenders.
