Thousands of social housing tenants are missing out on having heat pumps installed in their homes as grid operators struggle to keep up with demand.
Capacity issues with the electricity grid mean social landlords are facing huge waits when applying to have heat pumps connected for a large number of properties – meaning thousands of low-income households are unable to access savings on their energy bills.
One housing association in the North of England said it is sometimes waiting over two years to get approval to install a new heat pump, meaning it is far behind on its target to move its 39,000 properties off fossil fuels.
