The police arrested three persons, including a driver employed by a private finance company, in connection with the theft of nearly ₹2 crore from the company’s office in Shastri Nagar.According to police, Muthuramalingam, 29, of Kottivakkam on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), who worked as a collection agent at the private finance company in Shastri Nagar, lodged a complaint stating that ₹2 crore cash, which was collected on June 12 and kept in a wooden bureau inside the office, had gone missing the following morning.Based on the complaint, the Shastri Nagar police registered a case and launched an investigation. A special team examined the crime scene and analysed CCTV camera footage. This revealed an unidentified man wearing a helmet entering the premises after taking a key kept on the ground floor, opening the bureau, and leaving with the cash.The police eventually arrested Karthikeyan, 33, of Thimmarajanpettai, who is a driver at the firm, Velu, 36, of Walajabad; and Chandrasekaran, 33, of Thiruvalluvar Kudiyiruppu in Kancheepuram district. During interrogation, the police found that Karthikeyan had prior knowledge that a large amount of cash was being stored in the office. He allegedly conspired with his friends Velu and Chandrasekaran to steal the money. Late on June 12, the trio travelled to the finance company in a car. Karthikeyan allegedly entered the building alone and stole the cash.The police recovered ₹1,97,94,000 from the accused. Three mobile phones and the car used in the offence were also seized.
