According to the Parliament, the proposed package would provide approximately €156 million in European Union support to Tanzania.

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have adopted a resolution calling on the European Commission to withdraw its proposed 2026 funding package for Tanzania, citing concerns over human rights abuses, democratic backsliding, and the Tanzanian government's refusal to allow a visit by a European Parliament human rights delegation.

The resolution, adopted on Thursday by a show of hands during a plenary session of the European Parliament, objects to the Commission's draft implementing decision on financing the annual action plan for Tanzania in 2026.

According to the Parliament, the proposed package would provide approximately €156 million in European Union support to Tanzania.

In the resolution, MEPs recalled that the European Commission had suspended the adoption process for the funding package in November 2025 following serious concerns raised by lawmakers.
