A State witness in the Zandile Gumede corruption trial has told the court that the position of being head of special projects was not a promotion, but an added responsibility.
A former senior manager in eThekwini Municipality said the move by former city manager Sipho Nzuza to appoint a head of special projects during the time the city was experiencing a waste crisis was not unusual within the municipality.
The former senior manager, who cannot be named, was testifying on behalf of the State on Wednesday at the Durban High Court during the R320 million Durban Solid Waste (DSW) corruption case.
He conceded that what Nzuza had done by appointing Allan Robert Abbu had been done before.
The State alleges that Nzuza interfered with operational duties by appointing Abbu, the fourth accused in the matter, as head of special projects, and that Abbu was reporting directly to Nzuza.
