Lawrence O’Donnell on Wednesday argued that President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have proven two things with the Iran deal after years of “lying” about one signed by Barack Obama back in 2015.“Just how strong the Obama deal was and what complete and utter and relentlessly incompetent losers Marco Rubio and Donald Trump really are,” stressed the MS NOW host. The Trump-backed memorandum of understanding with Iran includes a $300 billion reconstruction fund for the country, a move that ex-George W. Bush aide Marc Thiessen called a “disaster” and akin to offering “the Marshall Plan to rebuild Germany while the Nazis were still in power.”Former Vice President Mike Pence reacted to the MOU by declaring that it “smacks of” appeasement, words O’Donnell suggests are the ex-veep’s way of invoking a “direct comparison with negotiating with Nazi Germany.”The host emphasized that Trump is doing the exact thing he condemned Obama for doing but giving Iran “much, much, much, more money” than his predecessor. At the G7 summit, Trump defended the fund by arguing that the U.S. has taken “a lot” of Iran’s money and, “at a certain point in time, I guess we’re going to have to give it back.”O’Donnell said the president didn’t have to play his predecessor’s game, adding that he would’ve “benefited hugely” from keeping the 2015 deal in place but, instead, his “appeasement” is now in writing.“Historians now have everything. Everything they need to compare these two presidencies and to compare these two men in every way,” O’Donnell said.“And Donald Trump is the loser in that comparison in every possible way.”
