Amid xenophobic violence against Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa, data published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that South Africa remains Nigeria's leading trade partner on the continent.
According to data released by the NBS, South Africa exported goods worth N155 billion to Nigeria between January and March 2026, making it the leading beneficiary of Nigerian imports in Africa.
Angola followed with exports valued at N145 billion, while Egypt exported goods worth N70 billion. Morocco recorded N68 billion in exports to Nigeria, while Swaziland exported goods worth N33 billion.
The trade figures come amid growing concerns over the safety of Nigerians living in South Africa following repeated incidents of xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant rhetoric.
